But what about the Tomos? – The UOC in the USA and Canada started talking about joining the OCU

On July 30, 2019, in the state of New Jersey, USA, the representatives of the UOC in the USA and Canada met the hierarch of the Phanar, Metropolitan Emmanuel of Gaul, and the representative of the OCU, “Archbishop” Yevstratiy Zorya. This is reported on the page “St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral – Orthodox Church Of Ukraine” in Facebook.

As the representative of the Constantinople UOC in the United States John Yaresko writes, it was about the mutual relations of this vicariate with Constantinople, official affiliation to the OCU in Kyiv and further cooperation of all parties involved.

John Yaresko emphasized that “the main goal of the believers who were in the vicariate until December 15, 2018 was to receive an official document from His Beatitude Epiphany, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine of the Local Ukrainian Orthodox Church, that the VICARIAT of the LOCAL UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN THE USA AND CANADA remains an integral part of the Mother Church under the leadership of His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphany”.

Metropolitan Emmanuel diplomatically noted to this that “we need cooperation, patience, and in the course of time this difficult task will be solved for the benefit of all”.

It is also talking about the fact that by the end of September all parishes that are part of the vicariate should meet and discuss these topics in more details”.

Recall that according to the text of the Tomos for the OCU, the latter has no right to keep parishes outside Ukraine. Apparently, such discussions are also aimed at counterbalancing Filaret’s activities in order to limit his influence abroad.
